Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Full Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck surgery tightens the muscles of the abdomen while removing excess fat and skin. There are two types of abdominoplasties. A full tummy tuck begins with a full abdominal liposuction. Then an incision is made at the pubic bone and extends up to the hip bones. The muscles from under the breasts down to the pubis are sewn together. The wedge of fat and skin between the belly button and the pubis is removed. The belly button is brought out through the skin in its new position. Quilting sutures are used to secure the skin to its new location eliminating the need for drains.
Mini Tummy Tuck
A mini tummy tuck is performed when the abdominal muscle damage is minimal and the skin is elastic. A small incision above the pubic bone is made. The muscles from the breasts down to the pubis are sewn together. The area is liposuctioned and excess skin is removed. The belly button remains in almost the same position.
